What is Jewish Art? And what is modern Jewish Art?
The way I determine if my paintings are to be defined as Jewish Art is if they include some sort of Jewish symbolism, whether cultural or religious. This includes modern abstract art with Hebrew lettering, traditional Bar Mitzvah art with a blessing for the Torah reading, and everything in between, from paintings about Shabbat, Jewish Weddings, the Torah...even matzoh! All of my original Jewish paintings are just that, original in my mind, formed by my traditions, my values, my experiences and passed down from generation to generation. Some are totally new family traditions created in my home and shared with my children, and some are ancient Jewish teachings represented in mixed media bible art stories.
