Sharon Feldstein is an Atlanta-based artist creating works that are a combination of both painting and fine craft. Letters, lines and shapes are intertwined into mosaic and geometric designs, using unique processes on wood to deconstruct landscapes, words, travel photos, and even vintage board games into their elemental forms. She then reconstructs these objects into new narratives. Sometimes hidden underneath layers of more paint, but always there. Always the foundation.
"As an artist, it is important to create work that genuinely comes from within. An innate intellectual curiosity drives my art, never taking any "fact" at face value but always looking for the truth, or at least the "other" truths. I build on squares, little tidbits of facts, which become the foundation for my art. Squares are the foundation that hold everything together." -Sharon
"The Process" What excites me most about creating art?
Experimenting with processes, inventing and innovating until I find the perfect combination of materials and techniques. I've spent more than fifteen years 'playing around' with wood and paint, lettering and lines. Old wood or new, it's a medium that's warm and alive. After years of improving the processes of surface preparation to final finishes and everything in between, my Mosaic Paintings are now fine craft bursting with colors, shapes and a bit of elegant whimsy. Each highly detailed work of art is meticulously painted, and oftentimes carved, to create a tactile piece of wall art. These richly painted pieces invite the viewer to touch the surface as well as immerse in the flow of color and shape. Abstract landscapes, iconic characters, fauna, flora, and the human figure are all included in the collection. Sometimes there's even a touch more fun, with "hidden" elements, a sort of "I Spy" surprise!
Travel, reading, and raising my now adult four children have given me my own unique perspective on life, tradition, culture, and politics. That, and a couple of famous abstract artists thrown in as well!
I paint mainly with acrylics and oils on wood panels, but I also alternate styles and techinues so I also keep a stock of canvases in the Studio.
Since 2006, Sharon Feldstein Art a.k.a.Southern Heart Studio has been a local Atlanta presence, providing customers both locally and nationally with handcrafted items for their homes.
